Hola! Diego!

Maradona is one of my all time heros, and not just in sports. I don’t particularly idolize many people, but he is an exception. Aside from being the greatest player of his time, he is a real human being, not the usual boring and predictable celebrity. Outspoken and funny, troubled and genius, a saint and a sinner.

Watching Maradona as the manager of a great Argentina team is almost as fun as watching him play.  I love the way he kisses and hugs each player when they come off the field. I love the way he paces like a little Napoleon on the sidelines. The Argentina players will play their hearts out for this guy and as the World Cup progresses, one can’t help but think that Maradona, could be the X factor in this World Cup.

When Some Product started, the very first collection of graphics ever designed and produced was entitled “BADASS”. They were dedicated to the real “badasses” in the world of sports. Without much hesitation Maradona was my very first choice for the upcoming line as he literally epitomizes the term.

The Maradona graphic was also featured on a cut and sew line of “BADASS” women’s dresses, that were available at select boutiques in North America and Japan that same season. Also visible on the dress are the Reggie Jackson and Dr. J designs. The dress was featured in a Flaunt magazine editorial that same season.

…..And from Germany, a different take on a Maradona t!!!! Amazing.

Hi Hitler! Lets Party !

20th century’s most hated tyrant, gets a Nu Rave make over, complete with hip hop “Kanye” shades on this insane and amazing example of  a street t-shirt graphics from Bangkok. Seeing as Thailand was quite removed from the events and horrors of WW2, Hitler is usually depicted in the same way, as say, Marilyn, Che or  The Sex Pistols, basically just another pop culture image.

I loved my adidas, but I love N.W.A. more.

One of my favorite bands of all time and one of my favorite tees.

This killer N.W.A. tee came from a trade for a pair of blue shell toe Adidas years ago. Who cares about the shell toes anyway!!

Ion Mag x Mycommunitee

Seven years is a long time to last in the independent magazine world. Our friends at ION have not only survived but have consistently grown, while making the magazine more interesting in both content and over all presentation. For the past several months we have collaborated with them on their Limited EDIT[ION] t-shirt series. Below are the three latest tees Mycommunitee has printed.

An Expo 86 inspired design by a very lanky and talented Vancouverite, Robert Mearns.

A killer news clip graphic from my pal, Devit aka The Dark.

And, the latest design is from Brian Donelly whose awesome paintings I recently saw at The Show & Tell gallery in Toronto.

Contact ION magazine directly to purchase any of these tees and Happy 7th ION!!

Second Favorite T-shirt !

I got this tee from a girl at some massive rager I went to in East LA once. I clearly remember a few farm animals running around all over the place and hundreds of people getting wasted with police helicopters flying overhead. She had about a dozen of these shirts printed up and she was trying to sell them out of a box, for $20. I didn’t pay her, but I offered to wear it all night at the party in exchange for the shirt. I have never worn it again ( just can’t seem to find the right occasion I guess ). A real treasure that now sits securely tucked away in my safety deposit box.

El Ballistico

Probably the first t-shirt designed by Some Product for the magician El Ballistico. The design was hand drawn on a napkin and was digitally “remastered” by my friend Pete Digiboy.
The tees were sold by El Ballistico right off the side of the stage after each performance. Only about 50 were made.
There is talk of a limited edition re-print of the El Ballistico tee, for Summer 2010, to be sold exclusively at El Kartel in Vancouver.

A few rare photos of the missing magician El Ballistico and his assistants in his prime.

Favorite T-shirt, Ever!

This is really one of my all time most cherished items.
T-shirt graphics are often a way to communicate with the outside world your likes or dislikes, irony, humor, affiliations etc.
I wore this particular tee non-stop for nearly a year. I actually ended up meeting a girlfriend named Kitty while wearing this shirt.
True Story!

The Gallery – some of our favorite tees, living or dead.

Odd Ball Cabaret tank. Another favorite strip club, 80’s graphic.

Georgio by Ryan Paradise. His company was Model Slut in Paradise from Chicago and they were definitely kindred spirits when Some Product first started coming out to tradeshows in the US.

Most band shirts are pretty lame, some are ok, and few are great. This is a GREAT band shirt!

Graphic by one of my favorite Japanese artists, Keiichi Tanaami, for Beams in Japan. I got this one as a gift from the head at Beams Tees, in Tokyo a few years ago. They consistently produce some of the coolest graphic tees in the world.

Another excellent thrift store tee. Cool illustration, and an excellent use of the “80’s Grid” graphic technique.
